Custom T-Shirt Manufacturing: What Defines a Premium Tee

A premium T-shirt can look simple, but small choices determine whether it feels structured, soft, vintage, clean or inexpensive. The most important decisions should be made together rather than treated as separate specifications.

Fabric weight is only the beginning

Light jersey drapes easily, while heavyweight jersey creates a more structured silhouette. Yarn quality, knitting density and finishing affect surface smoothness, pilling and print clarity. Compact cotton is often selected when a cleaner face and stable hand feel are required.

Control shrinkage and twisting

Cotton jersey can shrink and torque after washing. Fabric relaxation, pre-shrink treatment and pattern allowances should be considered during development. Measurements should be reviewed before and after the intended wash process.

Engineer the neckline

Neck rib width, composition, stretch and seam construction determine how the collar sits and recovers. The rib should suit the weight of the body fabric; a weak collar can make an otherwise strong garment feel unfinished.

Balance the fit

For oversized and boxy fits, check chest width, shoulder drop, sleeve opening and body length together. A reference garment is helpful, but its measurements should be translated for your target fabric and wash rather than copied blindly.

Test artwork before bulk

Ink system, mesh, underbase, curing and garment wash all influence the final graphic. Confirm the artwork size and placement on the physical sample, especially when the design crosses seams or sits near the collar.
